Helen M. Johnson

LONGVIEW — Helen M. Johnson, 90, of Longview, Texas, passed away January 4, 2014, in Longview, Texas. She was born in Elizabethton, Tennessee, to Dana R. and Iva Minton Moody. She married Roy E. Johnson at the age of 17 on June 12, 1941, in York, South Carolina. While Roy served 57 months during World War II, she completed high school and attended business school and worked at North American Rayon Corp. in the chemical dept. She later worked in Johnson City, Tennessee, as a medical secretary.
After Roy returned to the states, they moved to Long­view, so he could attend Le­Tourneau College. They lived on the campus while he worked and got his degree. She worked at the Hurst Clinic and Dr. W.B. Norman’s office, retiring after more than 30 years there.
She was an active member of Moberly Baptist Church since 1952, singing in the Golden Praisingers Choir and was a member of the Agape Sunday school class. She also loved to go bowling and camping.
She is survived by nieces, Polly Little and Nancy Robertson; and good friends, Jane Tarver, Naomia Ormes and Judy Mock.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her sister, Edna Cole.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, January 9, 2014, at Lakeview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, with Chaplain Wayne Norvell officiating. She will then be entombed in Lakeview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
A time of visitation with her friends will be from 9-10 a.m., before the services.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials be made to Faith Hospice, 4362B Hwy. 259 North, Longview, TX 75605.
